Faust
“Faust” is coming to a theater near you! A big one!
When it opened in 1927, it was billed as “The Showplace of the Carolinas”, and it was a place to see grand silent cinema, accompanied by a grand theatre organ.
The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro still maintains a series of silent films accompanied by organ, but this screening is different.
Performing as Modern Robot, Ben Singer has performed Faust at festivals around the world: Edinburgh Festival Fringe, San Francisco Fringe Festival, Orlando Fringe, and FringeNYC.
His score ranges from lush melodies to searing sounds, bringing out the grandeur, passion, and large scale of Murnau’s film.

“Modern Robot provide a pulsating, breathtakingly epic score to the film. The distinct, atmospheric movements accompanying the different scenes and themes of the film are expertly arranged and the post-rock Godspeed You Black Emperor-esque guitar and drumming is of an exceptional quality.” ★★★★★ (BroadwayBaby, 2015)
“Creating admirably precise percussive patterns, haunting, echoey, blues-inflected passages and some suitably raging storms to reflect the onscreen building of tension.” (The Herald Scotland)
“The sheer musicianship displayed by the duo was something to behold. The soundtrack fit the mood of the film well … If you like music and classic film, you’ll enjoy this mashup.” (Orlando Sentinel)
